Lawyer, Senior Associate
Julian Steimer is a lawyer with proven expertise in European and International Business Law, as well as in advising on complex cross-border matters, particularly those relating to the Middle East. His practice focuses on foreign trade law, including export control and sanctions law, the War Weapons Control Act, investment control, as well as green trade law and trade compliance.
Before joining Vischer Voss, Julian Steimer worked as a lawyer in the Middle East practice of a renowned German-speaking law firm in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Through his extensive knowledge of UAE law and the economic and regulatory framework in the Middle East, he also provides clients with comprehensive and holistic representation on export control and sanctions law issues relating to the UAE and other sensitive jurisdictions in the Middle East, in particular regarding indirect exports involving third countries, circumvention scenarios, end-use certificates (EUCs), no-re-export clauses, as well as ESG and supply chain due diligence obligations. Prior to this, he gained experience as a research assistant and trainee lawyer in major international law firms and in the legal department of a Munich-based company specialising in export control, including in the context of sanctions against Russia and Iran, as well as in software and technology transfers, including dual-use goods.
Julian Steimer takes an efficient, solution-oriented approach to advising clients. He proactively supports clients in their communications with authorities and business partners and ensures that companies can always act in a legally compliant and economically sound manner. He combines legal precision with a clear understanding of operational and strategic business requirements, as well as the specific conflicts and strategic scope for action that arise in international business transactions.
Julian Steimer publishes regularly on current topics in foreign trade law and speaks at conferences. He is currently pursuing a PhD in export control and sanctions law at the University of Passau.
